A new dog park for South Park

South Park dogs will soon have a new place to play! King County is using property reserved for the new South Park Bridge to create a temporary dog park.

While planning for the new South Park Bridge, King County previously purchased a lot at South Sullivan Street and Dallas Avenue South - home to an old Teriyaki shop - to use as a staging area for construction. Since the South Park Bridge replacement project has not been completely funded, the property has gone unused. Now, King County will bring this property to life with a neighborhood dog park.

The 8000-square-foot park will offer a place for dogs to play off-leash. King county will lay a sandy material on the ground and construct a 4-foot fence with gates around the park.

King County plans to demolish the old Teriyaki shop in August and open the park by Labor Day.

The park will cost $2500 which will be covered by county demolition dollars.

If the South Park Bridge replacement project is funded and construction begins in the spring, the park may be moved to a new location, depending on its success at Sullivan and Dallas.

Andres Mantilla, with Seattle Parks and Recreation, hopes to get neighbors involved in the park so that the community can help with maintenance.
