Over 1,000 signatures, 150 letters delivered in support of new South Park Bridge

Over 1,000 signatures and letters in support of replacing the South Park Bridge were delivered to the King County Department of Transportation on Friday.

In a press release, county executive Dow Constantine thanked everyone who signed the petitions and wrote the letters that were received. They will accompany the county’s application for federal TIGER II funding that would go toward a new bridge.

Elizabeth Mauro and Jacob Sazishinsky led the volunteer effort that gained 1,049 signatures and 150 letters from throughout the neighborhood. Those will be part of the application that the county will deliver to federal officials later this month.

County crews will start removing the leaves on the bridge later this month. They have been in the upright position since the bridge closed on June 30. South Park Arts is planning a work party on August 21 to work on the new 3,000 square feet of public space on the south side of the bridge created by the closure.
