South Park Bridge leaves will be raised, lowered | Transportation
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Next week you will see the South Park Bridge leaves raised and lowered. We just got this note from Ashley DeForest, Community Relations Planner for King County DOT:
The King County Roads crew will be operating the bridge leaves beginning next Tuesday, August 24. This work is being done so the contractor can more easily prepare the leaves for removal the following week. We want to make sure people in the neighborhood know that the lowering of the leaves does not mean the bridge will be open for access.
Once this prep work is done, the next step in the process will involve a large barge and crane coming in to remove the leaves. The 224 ton leaves are scheduled to be removed sometime between August 30 and September 2. Each leaf will be cut near the pier face and removed in a single lift. Plans can change in construction but that is the best information we have at this point. The waterway will be entirely closed for those four days so you boat owners take note!
